BRIANNA

After the Kiss Cam and the conversation I’d had with the man sitting on my left, I’d sort of lost interest in the baseball game.

I couldn’t stop thinking about kissing Jackson.

He seemed to be enjoying it, though.

Quite frankly, I was ready to go.

“You have a flight tomorrow?” I asked Jackson during one of the many quiet spells in the game.

“No,” he said. “But Quinn wants me in the office early. There’s a computer program I need to learn.”

I was familiar with the computer program. It had a steep learning curve and I often wondered if Daddy kept it around as a way to weed out people who weren’t committed to learning everything about Skye Travels.

It was one of those programs that was hard to learn, but then it was simple once a person got the hang of it.

At least that’s what Madison told me. Kade had gone through it.

And Kade was one of the smartest men I knew.

I only knew of one new hire who had left because he didn’t take the effort to learn the computer program.

“I don’t want to keep you out too late,” I said. Even as I said it, I knew I was being nonassertive. I was trying to get Jackson to be the one who wanted to leave.

“It’s not late,” he said, cheering when our team made another home run.

It was obvious that Houston was winning, though I hated to point out the obvious.

I sat for a few more minutes. Checked my phone. No messages. Had a couple of comments on my You Tube channel. I quickly responded to them.

Then I saw it. Someone had actually recorded the Kiss Cam and posted it on my social media.

So there I was, kissing Jackson, and it was going viral.

I should be happy about that. But something about it made me feel ill. Maybe it was the surprise and loss of control over it that I had.

I’d thought to use it intentionally. Maybe use it. Maybe not. But someone else had made that choice for me.

I closed my phone and tapped it against my knee.

“Jackson,” I said. “I’m ready to go.”

“Okay,” he said. “Sure. Why didn’t you say so?”

“I did.”

“Alright, let’s go.”

We said goodbye to the nice man sitting beside us and made our way down the stairs and eventually out the front gates.

It was a bit of a walk to my car, but fortunately, I had on comfortable shoes.

We walked in silence, the loudness of the baseball game still ringing in my ears.

It had been fun, but it had been a long day. First the family gathering, then the baseball game.

And on top of that, there was kissing Jackson.

For a girl who spent most of her days at home, in a quiet environment, I had met my threshold.

I just needed to go home and recharge my batteries.

We got into my car and I pulled out of the parking space.

“Thank you,” Jackson said. “Really enjoyed getting out. Going to the baseball game. I wouldn’t have done it without you.
